How Florida Collects And Spends Its Money
Florida is known worldwide as a vacation destination, but those of us who live here know that the way Florida takes in and spends money affects every aspect of our lives. From now until 2030, people age 60 and older will account for most of Florida’s population growth, representing 56.9 percent of the gains. Adequate healthcare for our growing populace is essential, as is care of the infrastructure to support all these people.
We need well-maintained infrastructure, high-quality public education and services such as police and fire protection, and medical care. As a state, we will need to continue to make investments that guarantee that we maintain the quality of life that makes Florida such an attractive place to live. Florida is beautiful, but compared to the other 49 states in the US, we perform poorly in areas like education, insurance coverage, tax fairness, and the proportion of people covered by health insurance, just to name a few.
We can change this, though.
We have created this guide to the Florida Budget to help you, the citizens, advocates, and elected officials at every level, learn how you can influence how the state sets and acts on its priorities.
